Doug Jones is a Democrat Senator from Alabama who is in a tight spot. He comes from a conservative state and only has his state because his opponent became drowned in controversy near the end of the race (odd how the media only found the controversy in the last few days of the race as opposed to the Republican primary). 

Regardless of how he got there, he might not be there for long, his vote on the articles might have a serious impact on his re-election chances so getting that opportunity is likely what led him to demand Pelosi hand them over.
