William Mendoza, 42, formerly of Obama's White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education, resigned in disgrace after he was arrested and charged with attempted voyeurism in November 2016. According to the Daily Mail, this is not the first time Mendoza has ran afoul of the law.
Mendoza, an activist for left-wing Native American causes allegedly assaulted an autistic Oklahoma man in a Washington Redskins shirt and called him a "weetard" in 2015. The two got into a physical altercation, which did not result in criminal charges.
In July of 2016, Mendoza was caught on surveillance cameras in D.C. metro stations using a camera phone to take photos under women's skirts while on the escalator. He was also seen viewing a video of a woman in a dressing room, that appeared to be taken in a similar way.
He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted voyeurism in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on January 13, 2017, and was given a 90-day suspended prison sentence, one-year probation and a $100 fine. In April 2017, the Department of Education’s Office of the Inspector General advised he should be barred from federal employment ‘due to suitability.’
