GOP Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas is set to announce he will retire. The longtime politician Will make his plans to not seek reelection in 2020 public on Friday.

The Daily Caller first reported the news of the retirement announcement:
 

Republican Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts will announce his retirement at a press conference in Kansas Friday afternoon, a source close with Roberts thinking told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Roberts, who has served in the Senate since 1997, will announce his retirement after months of speculation.

Prior to serving in the Senate, Roberts became a U.S. Congressman in 1981 and served until 1997.
