An illegal immigrant from Haiti is accused of murdering a police officer in Florida. The officer was responding to an assault call at a gas station.
According to Town Hall:
Last week Florida police officer Adam Jobbers-Miller was shot and killed while responding to an assault at a gas station. After being shot in the head, Miller fought for his life in the hospital for a week and sadly couldn’t overcome his injuries. He was just 29-years-old and had been with the Fort Myers Police Department for three years.
The man suspected of his murder is Wisner Desmaret, an illegal immigrant from Haiti. He shot Miller while fleeing the scene. He has a long record of run-ins with local and federal law enforcement. From local NBC2:
It could take months or it could take years for Desmaret to face possible deportation for being in the country illegally.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson said that he’ll first face any charges from local authorities.
ICE confirmed that deportation will only take place when or if the suspect is released. Desmaret has apparently been placed on “ICE Holds” multiple other times proving that this senseless crime could have been prevented.
