Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly met with President Trump and issued a warning to him about the dangers of declaring a national emergency at the border.

According to Town Hall:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) last week warned President Donald Trump about the dangers of declaring a national emergency for the proposed border wall, The Washington Post reported. According to those familiar with the private conversation, McConnell said the declaration could divide the Republican Party and Congress would, more than likely, pass a resolution disapproving the emergency declaration. Should that declaration happen, as McConnell suggested, Trump could be forced to veto the declaration, which would put him at odds with his own party.

As of Friday, Trump sounded prepared to take the steps necessary to declare a national emergency.

“I think there’s a good chance we’ll have to do that," the president told reporters. “We will be looking at a national emergency because I don’t think anything’s going to happen. I don’t think Democrats want border security.”

The Washington Post also reported that other Senators have issued a similar warning to the president:

Although the senators have shared their concerns with Trump, they're unsure if he shares the similar sentiments.

The declaration could come as Trump gives his State of the Union address on Tuesday. We will have to tune in to find out what the president has decided.
