Nervous Dem Calls DNC Trump Lawsuit a

ObamaClaire, that is, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) was the outspoken liberal who chaired Obama’s campaign in Missouri. Now that she’s up for reelection in a state that voted for President Trump, suddenly she’s concerned about partisan Democrat antics.

From the Washington Free Beacon

Sen. Claire McCaskill’s (D., Mo.) office responded on Friday to the Democratic National Committee lawsuit against the Trump campaign, calling it a “silly distraction.” Early Friday, the DNC filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit alleging the Trump campaign, the Russian government, and Wikileaks conspired to elect Donald Trump president.

“During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy, and it found a willing and active partner in Donald Trump’s campaign,” DNC chair Tom Perez said in a statement. “This constituted an act of unprecedented treachery: the campaign of a nominee for president of the United States in league with a hostile foreign power to bolster its own chance to win the presidency,” he continued.

A McCaskill spokesperson told St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Chuck Raasch that the Missouri senator considers the lawsuit a distraction. McCaskill is up for reelection this November in a state Trump won by 19 points over Hillary Clinton in 2016. The senator faces a fierce challenge from presumptive Republican candidate Josh Hawley, the current Missouri Attorney General.

It’s nice that Claire McCaskill wants to be in touch with Missouri again. It’d be the first time since Missouri voters mistakenly sent her to Washington in 2006. She lucked out in 2012 with Todd Akin’s campaign imploding, but it’s gonna take more than this to save her seat.
