The shutdown continues and with this new rhetoric from both sides it does not look like a deal will be reached in the near future.
President Trump says Rep. Nancy Pelosi, expected to become the new Speaker of the House in January, is "calling the shots" on Capitol Hill, not Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer.
While on his secret trip to Iraq yesterday, Trump was asked if he has "come down from the $5 billion ask to $2 billion" for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. A dispute over the funding -- which is just 0.13% of the federal budget -- has partially shut down the government.
"Here's the problem -- yeah, here's the problem we have: We have a problem with the Democrats because Nancy Pelosi is calling the shots, not Chuck," Trump said. "And Chuck wants to have this done. I really believe that. He wants to have this done. But she's calling the shots, and she's calling them because she wants the votes."
Trump also said that there's a possibility that Pelosi won't be elected Speaker after all if Democrats eventually compromise on funding the wall.
