Trump Goes to War with Government Welfare Porkers

This morning we relayed a report from the Washington Examiner that revealed the Pentagon’s effort to cover up 125 billion in government waste. As conservatives, we abhor government waste, and we stand with beleaguered taxpayers, without exception. This means that we treat national security waste just like any other waste. We even suspect that the Pentagon is guilty of the worst level of abuse because Americans concerned about our national security are more likely to be tolerant of defense pork.

It appears President elect Trump is not one of those Americans.

In a shocking tweet storm today, Trump took to task Boeing, one of the top recipients of American defense pork, and suggested he won’t be a part of it. As the Washington Examiner’s Kyle Feldscher reports:

President-elect Trump said Boeing is “doing a little bit of a number” on the American taxpayer with its deal to build the new fleet of Air Force Ones and threatened to cancel the government’s order.

The cost of building a new Air Force One will be about $4 billion, Trump tweeted Tuesday. He later took a question from reporters at Trump Tower about the tweet and said it’s going to cost too much.

“The plane is totally out of control, it’s going to be over $4 billion for the Air Force One program, and I think it’s ridiculous,” Trump said. “I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number. We want Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money.”

In a statement, Boeing said it only has a contract for an initial phase of the project.

This is wonderful. Talk to any beltway defense insider, and they’ll tell you about the blank check culture that pervades the military industrial complex. We hope that Trump’s approach to his own travel arrangements leads him to ask questions about other instances of bloat in the Pentagon budget. A debt ridden America, compromised America is an unsafe America.
