Minnesota Democratic Sen. Al Franken will resign Thursday, according to a Democratic official.
The news, first reported by Minnesota Public Radio, comes after a sixth accuser came forward Wednesday alleging Franken had behaved inappropriately toward her.
The most recent accusation spawned a deluge of calls from Senate colleagues for Franken’s resignation.
The latest, Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, called Franken a dear friend but said, “he has a higher obligation to his constituents and the Senate, and he should step down immediately.”
