President Trump grabbed headlines for slamming Attorney General Jeff Sessions because he delegated the investigation of FISA abuses to a certain Inspector General. It turns out that the same Inspector General is a holdover from the Obama administration and is in the news for another reason: covering up the mysterious circumstances behind the hacking of former CBS journalist Sharyl Attkisson.
“The Justice Departement is fighting us,” Attkisson tweeted, singling out Inspector General Michael Horowitz, an Obama administration holdover who still holds the position. This is the same Michael Horowitz who was appointed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to oversee the FISA abuses investigation.
Attkisson has been the subject of a long-standing saga over her investigative journalism on the Benghazi story that made her the target of a hack, verified by a third party to have been from a sophisticated source such as a governmental entity, possibly by someone in the Obama administration. The ensuing investigation led to the Department of Justice taking custody of her computer, which was returned to her with a new hard drive, she alleges.
Attkisson has a pending lawsuit against the United States Government for their handling of the incident. She claims that the same Inspector General that is looking into the FISA abuses is, in fact, stonewalling her on behalf of the government.
