In the spring of 2016, John Podesta’s email was hacked due to a phishing email, the sort we all get, but targeted at the Democrats; the Trump campaign was subject to similar attacks, but was not compromised. As Podesta stated, he was chair of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, a parallel operation to the “Democratic” National Committee, but not the same organization. DNC emails were published by Wikileaks in July of 2016. While some contend that the Russians hacked the DNC, it hasn’t been proven that they were themselves hacked, or whether someone inside of the DNC was behind the breach.
