President Trump has repeatedly expressed his disappointment and frustration with Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Now, Judge Jeanine Pirro, a judge and former District Attorney in New York, wants to replace him.

Mediaite reports: 

Four people familiar with the conversations told Politico that Pirro has been chatting with Trump’s staffers for the past 18 months about the possibility of becoming attorney general. One Fox News employee also told Politico that Fox News colleagues have laughed off her suggestion of taking the job from Sessions. Additionally, two White House aides said they don’t think Trump is seriously considering booting out Sessions for Pirro.

But Trump is known to favor television personalities over political veterans, in some cases. The president replaced his former economic adviser, Gary Cohn, with CNBC’s Larry Kudlow. There’s no love lost between Pirro and Sessions, either: she recently called him “the most dangerous man in America” and consistently bashes staffers and critics alike for being insufficiently loyal to the president.

Pirro, on the other hand, reportedly speaks to the president on the phone frequently, and Trump has even called in to her Saturday evening show.

The current Attorney General, while handling the president’s priorities in immigration well, is arguably ill-suited for the sort of bureaucratic guerrilla warfare that it takes to fend off attacks from inside the government, like the Special Counsel. Judge Pirro has the spunk for the role, and has sought the role of New York’s Attorney General, but was defeated by Andrew Cuomo in 2006. In any event, it appears that Jeff Sessions is becoming increasingly isolated, as the president seeks outside help to clean up after the recusal fiasco that has defined Sessions’ short legacy. Look for President Trump to make more personnel changes when Mueller Investigation goes away.
