Former GOP Senator Jeff Flake announced he will not be voting for Donald Trump in the 2020 Presidential election.
When asked by the Washington Post if he “would feel comfortable” voting for a Democrat he responded by saying:
Yeah. This won’t be the first time I’ve voted for a Democrat — though not for president [before]. Last time I voted for a third-party candidate. [Laughs.] But I will not vote for Donald Trump.
Flake tweeted out “Trumpism cannot be the future of the party” with a link to the Washington Post interview.
Prior to Trump winning the White House, Flake had called on Trump to drop from the race after the Access Hollywood tape became public which bothered Trump.
In 2016, Flake voted third party rather than voting for Donald Trump.
The disdain between the two carried on through the first two years of Trump’s term.
Flake spent the latter half of his first term in the upper chamber sparring with President Trump despite usually voting with the President 84% of the time.
Flake famously said Trump “debased” the Presidency. While Trump blasted Flake:
How could Jeff Flake, who is setting record low polling numbers in Arizona and was therefore humiliatingly forced out of his own Senate seat without even a fight (and who doesn’t have a clue), think about running for office, even a lower one, again? Let’s face it, he’s a Flake!

The first-term Senator chose to not seek re-election. The Republican party was unable to hold on to Flake’s Senate seat which is now held by Democrat Krysten Sinema.
