GOP turned Independent Congressman Justin Amash is taking the first steps towards running for President.
On Tuesday night, Amash announced he launched an exploratory committee to seek the Libertarian Party’s nomination for president:
Today, I launched an exploratory committee to seek the @LPNational’s nomination for president of the United States. Americans are ready for practical approaches based in humility and trust of the people.

“We’re ready for a presidency that will restore respect for our Constitution and bring people together. I’m excited and honored to be taking these first steps toward serving Americans of every background as president,” said Amash.
Amash, who represents west Michigan, has served in Congress since 2011 and is seen as one of the most ideologically libertarian members of Congress.
He was one of the few Republican Congressmen who opposed the election of Trump after he became the nominee in 2016.
As an ideologically pure libertarian, Amash stood against Trump and said he was in Congress to “represent all of my constituents and to follow the Constitution.”
In 2019, Amash announced he would depart the Republican Party and become an independent.
He was the only Congressman who was not a Democrat to vote for the impeach inquiry of President Trump and applauded Senator Mitt Romney when he was the only Republican Senator who voted to convict Trump.
