United States Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) tested positive for COVID-19.
The Senator, who was also a physician prior to his tenure in politics, contacted his doctor to get tested after being exposed to someone with coronavirus.
“I am strictly following the direction of our medial experts and strongly encourage others to do the same,” Dr. Cassidy said in a statement.
Cassidy joins a growing list of politicians who have tested positive recently.
Late last month we reported that GOP Congressman Louie Gohmert tested positive before he was scheduled to fly with President Trump aboard Air Force One.
Gohmert has since recovered and has donated his blood plasma to which can be used to help treat patients who are fighting the virus (Tyler Morning Telegraph):
Gohmert donated blood before, but it was the first time to give plasma, Carter BloodCare said.
“So many different treatments seem to be helping different people. As someone who has recovered from COVID-19, I believe it is important we do all we can to help others as best we can,” Gohmert said. “It doesn’t hurt me and is only taking a little of my time to help multiple patients in East Texas.”
Gohmert said Northeast Texas Public Health District CEO George Roberts told him about recovered coronavirus patients donating their plasma. Roberts went with Gohmert to make the donation on Wednesday.
Other politicians who have tested positive for the virus include Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Rep. Ben McAdams (D-UT), Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Rep. Mario Diaz Balart (R-FL), Trump National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), Rep. Tom Rice (R-SC), Rep. Joe Cunningham (D-SC), Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL), Former Utah Gov and Trump Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt (R) and Attorney General of Illinois Kwame Raoul (D).
