Sharpen the ends of any flag poles you’re carrying, use them to spear an attacker. You can also carefully insert single edged razor blades in the tip’s sides (one on each side) which can be used to slash, especially when they try to grab the end.Another excellent means of self-defense is to carry a piece of galvanized pipe, carried inside an over-sized golf umbrella handle, modified to allow you to pull a pin to separate the handled piece of pipe and pull it from the umbrella shaft. (Best to strengthen the thin pipe by reinforcing it by pouring melted lead down it’s length.) One can also simply purchase a ‘self-defense’ ‘sword/knife’ umbrella if you can find them.Or, if you’re ‘handy’ with tools, you can insert a large aluminum “tent stake”, on the top end of your handle. They’re almost 10 inches long and could be drilled and inserted up through the bottom of the umbrella handle and STILL give you several inches of ‘spike’. Sharpen carefully and it will easily penetrate skin. OR, you can use a common 6d nail and insert it in the head of the umbrella itself.
Such items become useful should you need to defend yourself or protect others with you. Pointing the ‘flag’ in such a way as to have the doctored end of it easy for them to grab should work wonders. Especially since they’re likely to try and grab it from you by the end where you’ve doctored it. It’ll slice right through their gloves as well. When the go to get their hands repaired they’ll have to explain how it is that they suffered such injuries.
Hard to get a cop to take your side when you’re attacking someone and grabbing something that doesn’t belong to you.
Just inform people who seem to be preparing to attack you that you ARE prepared to defend yourself and that they’re risking serious, potentially fatal injuries if they attack you.
If nothing else, they’ll be a bit more careful before risking it. If not, after the first one goes down or pulls back screaming they’ll know you ARE prepared to impart serious damage to them.
My preference is the razor blades.They can slash as well as doing serious hand injuries to anyone trying to grab your banner/flag poles and will easily cut through an assailant’s grip. Having both a doctored flag pole AND a doctored umbrella makes you rather formidable to deal with.
