Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has now been forced into quarantine after contact with a Covid-19 positive individual.

According to the State Department Pompeo has now tested negative for the Coronavirus but will observe the 14 day quarantine anyway out of an abundance of caution. A decision which will force him to delay or cancel many of his regularly scheduled duties as Secretary of State.

As The Hill reports:

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is entering quarantine after he came into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, the State Department announced Wednesday…

Pompeo is the latest person in Trump’s orbit to come into contact with someone who had tested positive. Several administration officials have already contracted the coronavirus, including White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, top aide Stephen Miller and more.

The secretary of State has raised eyebrows recently with invitations to a large indoor party, the kind of event public health officials have urged Americans to avoid out of fears they could turn into super spreader events.

The nation is currently experiencing an alarming spike in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths. There were nearly 190,000 new cases Tuesday alone, and over 300,000 people have died in the U.S. thus far.
