Vice President Pence will receive the Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine on Friday in a public event. The President-elect Joe Biden is set to receive the injection next week. Pence will be joined by second lady Karen Pence and Surgeon General Jerome Adams. The vaccine developed by Pfizer was approved for emergency use on Friday with the drug reaching its first recipients on Monday.

The Vice President and chair of the White House Coronavirus Task Force is set to receive the vaccine publicly to help promote the vaccine to Americans. According to the White House, Pence hopes his taking the vaccine will “promote the safety and efficacy of the vaccine and build confidence among the American people.”

Fox News reports:

Earlier this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, recommended that the nation’s top leaders, including President Trump, receive the vaccine as soon as possible.

Trump contracted the virus in October, but it is not clear how long immunity lasts.

President Trump considered having White House officials be among the first Americans to receive the vaccine but ultimately changed his mind. It’s currently unclear exactly went the President will take the vaccine.

President Trump tweeted, “People working in the White House should receive the vaccine somewhat later in the program, unless specifically necessary. I have asked that this adjustment be made. I am not scheduled to take the vaccine, but look forward to doing so at the appropriate time.
