Things got a little tense during Nancy Pelosi’s recent interview for 60 Minutes with Lesley Stahl. During the extensive interview, Pelosi was asked about the future of her political party considering the fact the Democrat is 81 and will eventually retire. When Stahl asked if members of the progressive “Squad” such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could become Pelosi’s successor she was quick to respond that the party is already grooming future leadership and no, it’s not AOC.

Fox News reports:

Why does AOC [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.] complain that you have not been grooming younger people for leadership?” Stahl asked.

Pelosi responded, “I don’t know. You’ll have to ask her—because we are.”

Stahl seemed to be taken aback for a moment and said, “That was kind of sharp, kind of dismissing her.”

Pelosi said that was not her intention and said AOC is “very effective, as are others—many other members in our caucus that the press doesn’t pay attention to. But they are there and they are building support for what comes next.”

Pelosi’s comments come only weeks after Rep. Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview that the party needs new leadership and should shift away from Pelosi and Schumer.
