Nancy Pelosi is really sticking to the “unity and healing” mantra set forth by President Biden when she called GOP rep choosing to carry a firearm “the enemy within.” House Speaker Pelosi said that the chamber will likely invest more money into extra security efforts following the aftermath of the violent Capitol riot which set House Reps and Senators to shelter in place. However, it’s not just the threat of outside violence that has Pelosi requesting higher security, it’s her Republican colleagues.
Fox News reports:
“We will probably need a supplemental [budget] for more security for members when the enemy is within the House of Representatives — a threat that members are concerned about in addition to what is happening outside,” Pelosi said during her weekly news conference Thursday at the Capitol.
When asked for clarification on what she means about the enemy within, Pelosi specifically called out fellow members of Congress.
“It means we have members of Congress who want to bring guns on the floor and have threatened violence on other members of Congress,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi’s comments came after 32 members of Congress wrote to House leadership Thursday about members facing a “significant uptick in threats of violence and even death.”
Pelosi has continued to blame President Trump for the violence on Jan. 6th. Since the Capitol riot, metal detectors have been installed in the Capitol to prevent members from bringing guns to the House floor and extra security measures have been taken.
