Senate Republicans are poised to take full advantage of the rule of the budget reconciliation process Democrats are using to advance Biden’s Covid stimulus package while getting around a filibuster. Debate on the package started Wednesday and will continue until the time runs out. Then a process called a vote-a-rama begins, in the process, any senator is entitled to file an amendment to the resolution, which can result in dozens of votes on different provisions. Because Republicans oppose Democrats using reconciliation to bypass bipartisan support, the GOP plans to introduce a host of measures specifically aimed to not only make Democrats uncomfortable but make them go on record regarding a number of controversial issues.
