On the first day of the impeachment trial, a vote was held to determine the constitutionality behind impeaching an elected official who is no longer in office. Ultimately, the Senate voted the trial is constitutional and will proceed, the final vote was  56-44. Six Republicans voted alongside the Democrats. The six GOPers were: Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania.
