In a recent op-ed by Governor Noem, she details that despite the fact South Dakota saw its first positive Coronavirus case on March 10, 2020 the state had been monitoring the novel virus for some time. Gov. Noem says the South Dakota Department of Health had been closely monitoring the virus since January and preemptively established its Emergency Operation Center before the virus reached the state.
