Pro-Trump football star Herschel Walker is still considering mounting a campaign to challenge Georgia’s radical Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock in next year’s Senate race. Walker has been considered a top prospect to challenge and defeat Warnock but has yet to decide if he will run or not.
The Washington Examiner reports:
“I’m very honored that they would consider me running for the Senate, and my family, we’re still going through this process of praying and really considering it … and people want me to decide right now, and I said, ‘Guys, I’m going to take my time because this is a very serious, serious thing,'” he told Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday morning. “But I will tell you this: Herschel Walker believes in God, I believe in this country, I believe in the people, and I’m going to fight for the people of Georgia if I run, so just stay tuned. … It’s going to be exciting.”
When asked what his policy platform would be, Walker said he hopes to reunite people amid a fractious political climate.
“My priority most of all would be America. … I want to bring people back together,” he said.
Walker has been closely aligned with former President Trump for years, even delivering a speech praising him at last year’s Republican National Convention.
“It hurt my soul to hear the terrible names that people called Donald,” Walker said in his RNC speech. “The worst one is racist. I take it as a personal insult that people would think I’ve had a 37-year friendship with a racist. People that think that don’t know what they’re talking about. Growing up in the Deep South, I’ve seen racism up close. I know what it is, and it isn’t Donald Trump.”
Should Walker decide to run for Senate he will already have a leg up on the competition as Trump already wrote a glowing endorsement urging him to run.
Trump wrote, “Wouldn’t it be fantastic if the legendary Herschel Walker ran for the United States Senate in Georgia? He would be unstoppable, just like he was when he played for the Georgia Bulldogs, and in the NFL. He is also a GREAT person. Run Herschel, run!”
