In our US Constitution the original election scheme in Art II, Sec 1 provided that electors could not vote for two candidates who were “inhabitants of the same State”, and this was carried forth in the same language in Amendment XII in 1804, that provided for change to slate election (President and VP ran together, but still couldn’t be inhabitants of same State). As to Trump, he can run again under Amendment XXII and that is not unique (our second Pres Harrison lost to Cleveland then ran again and won in late 19th century). Ron DeSantis is clearly an inhabitant of the State of Florida (its Governor) so unless he left office and moved to another State, Trump would have to move (but not back to NY probably). Situation was not a problem with Geo W Bush and Cheney in 2000 and 2004 because Cheney was still a resident/citizen of Wyoming (now represented in Congress by his daughter Liz who is under fire within GOP) where he maintained a residence while serving in Texas as CEO of Halliburton and living there for that limited purpose; there lawyers blessed all that (may have been litigation but unsuccessful).

DeSantos not a good choice because visibility of the Vice President is very low. Republicans need him in the trenches where he is active and visible, such as Florida Governor. My suggestion would be for Mr. Trump to stay away from family members. It elicits a type of nepotism to some folks. I’d stay away from some of the heavy hitters because they may want to run on their own, and will have to develop their own path. I would definitely support someone like Mr. Pompeo, he’s extremely intelligent and didn’t misstep once as the President’s Secretary of State. There are several things to consider, the first is…how many State Electors come with each one, age…over 35, experience and political popularity. Balancing the ticket, is important.
We can speculate, all we want, but the final decision rests with President Trump.
His choice, will rest on how well his choice will not fit into a campaign, and then after the election…. be able to fully step into the job of Vice President. This last point, is currently on the radar, courtesy of the current *V. P. I’m from CA, and she has never impressed me.

Just imagine who would be best suited to become POTUS if anything happened to Trump (God forbid). All things considered my choice would be Pompeo, who would carry on with DJT’s policies and command worldwide respect while continuing to drain the swamp.
Ted Cruz is most likely the most powerful, intelligent, well spoken person who should be selected as the next VP under President Trump.
