During the 2020 Democrat primaries, Joe Biden called a voter a “lying, dog-faced pony soldier” after he criticized Biden’s performance in a New Hampshire campaign event.

“A lot of what he’s saying seems to be really sad,” said Madison Moore, who was in the crowd in Hampton, New Hampshire, on Sunday. “We had heard a lot about deaths and cancer and people losing their jobs, and to me, he doesn’t really seem very solution-oriented.”

Biden asked a group of prospective voters gathered at the town hall-style event if anybody in attendance had ever attended a caucus election such as the one in Iowa.

“It was a joke,” claimed campaign spokesperson Symone Sanders of the “lying, dog-faced pony soldier” quip. “Many people in the room laughed. And it was a line he has actually used frequently, which is from a John Wayne movie.”
