South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace surprised many when she voted to have Confederate statues and paintings removed from the Capitol. Of the pieces listed that will be removed if the bill passes include multiple historical figures from South Carolina including Wade Hampton, a South Carolina planter who served as a Confederate military officer and went on to become a governor and a senator.
