Conservative radio host Larry Elder announced he is entering the California recall race against Gavin Newsom.

According to The Washington Examiner:

He also discussed it on his radio program, which is heard in all 50 states on more than 300 stations, and revealed he was originally reluctant to enter the race because of how overwhelmingly blue the state is in statewide elections.

“Months ago, I was approached to run for governor by Dennis Prager because people asked him to ask me, they know how much I respect Dennis and how influential Dennis has been in my life and my career, and I said Dennis, thank you for that. But, hell no. I said, ‘I think this state is ungovernable,'” he said. “The Democrats enjoy supermajorities in the Senate, supermajorities in the Assembly, so Republicans need not show up for work.”

“I think this is a race between Gavin Newsom and me. I don’t think about the other candidates,” Elder told the Associated Press, adding, “I know it’s a long shot.”

In early July, Democratic Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis announced voters can decide whether or not to oust Newsom on Sept. 14 after state authorities made the determination that recall organizers obtained enough valid signatures. Days earlier, Secretary of State Shirley Weber’s office confirmed that there were 1,719,900 verified signers, well above the roughly 1.5 million needed to move forward with the recount.

Republican state Rep. Kevin Kiley is also running in the recall election against Caitlyn Jenner, former gubernatorial candidate John Cox, and San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer.
