Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted President Biden’s recent speech on voting rights. The speech comes as multiple states which have passed laws aimed at strengthening the security of elections have been falsely labeled by Democrats and Biden as trying to bring back “Jim Crow 2.0.”
In his speech, President Biden called the fight over voting laws the “most significant test to our democracy since the Civil War” a remark that McConnell says is not only “irresponsible” but also “utter nonsense.”
According to The Hill:
“What utter nonsense. It would be laugh-out-loud funny if it wasn’t so completely and totally irresponsible,” he said.
“This is our new president who promised to lower the temperature, bring America back together and rebuild a civil society where we can dialogue as fellow citizens,” McConnell added.
“These false comparisons are an insult to the actual hurdles that Americans nation has overcome together,” McConnell said.
President Biden’s remarks come after a group of Texas Democrats fled the Lone Star state to avoid giving the state legislature the required quorum to hold a vote on an election overhaul bill. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has told reporters that the Democrats will be arrested once they step foot back in Texas
