Former President Donald Trump called for Joe Biden’s resignation over the deteriorating state of Afghanistan after the withdrawal of American troops allowed the Taliban to rapidly take over the country.

“What Joe Biden has done with Afghanistan is legendary,” Trump said in a statement Sunday, after insurgents gained control of capital city Kabul. “It will go down as one of the greatest defeats in American history!”

“It is time for Joe Biden to resign in disgrace for what he has allowed to happen to Afghanistan,” he added, citing his grievances with how the White House has handled a number of domestic issues. “Along with the tremendous surge in COVID, the Border catastrophe, the destruction of energy independence, and our crippled economy.”

Trump’s demand came on the heels of the U.S. embassy in Kabul calling for Americans to “shelter in place” before shuttering and the Taliban seizure of Bagram Air Base on Sunday, when more than 5,000 al Qaeda and Taliban prisoners were released.

Biden tried to blame the Trump administration for Afghanistan’s stunning collapse on Saturday with the claim that he “inherited a deal cut by my predecessor,” as he deployed 5,000 U.S. troops to evacuate U.S. personnel and allies.

“Shortly before he left office, he also drew U.S. Forces down to a bare minimum of 2,500,” Biden accused. “Therefore, when I became President, I faced a choice — follow through on the deal, with a brief extension to get our Forces and our allies’ Forces out safely, or ramp up our presence and send more American troops to fight once again in another country’s civil conflict.”

But Trump was quick to point out that the Biden admin ramped up the troop withdrawal from his May 1st target to Sept. 11th to coincide with the 20 year anniversary of 9/11.

“Joe Biden gets it wrong every time on foreign policy, and many other issues. Everyone knew he couldn’t handle the pressure,” he accused Saturday. “He ran out of Afghanistan instead of following the plan our Administration left for him.”

“A plan that protected our people and our property, and ensured the Taliban would never dream of taking our Embassy or providing a base for new attacks against America,” Trump continued. “The withdrawal would be guided by facts on the ground.”

The former president said that he established a “credible deterrent” after “taking out” ISIS, but the Taliban “no longer” fear America’s power after that deterrent has been eliminated.

“What a disgrace it will be when the Taliban raises their flag over America’s Embassy in Kabul,” he concluded. “This is complete failure through weakness, incompetence, and total strategic incoherence.”
