South Africa was a terrible place to catch Covid-19, not only were you sick and had to quarantine but you also could not get a drink to ease the pain. South Africa banned the sale of liquor and cigarettes as a result of the lockdown. These bans did not last forever but the ban on liquor went through a period of going into place, being repealed, and then put back into place. South Africa also locked down all of its land borders, this meant that many South Africans who were traveling abroad could not return home.
