On Wednesday, the House Select Committee investigation the Capitol riot said it has “no choice” but to pursue criminal contempt charges against Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows.
The Washington Examiner reports:
Chairman Bennie Thompson wrote Wednesday that “the Select Committee is left with no choice but to advance contempt proceedings and recommend that the body in which Mr. Meadows once served refer him for criminal prosecution.”
Meadows’s lawyer told the committee Tuesday that his client would no longer be cooperating with the committee due to demands to view information protected by executive privilege and questions about unfair treatment. Meadows was former President Donald Trump’s chief of staff at the time of the riot.
Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon also refused to cooperate last month and has a trial set for next July.
