Nancy Pelosi is planning to run for reelection next year in an effort to lead Democrats through what will be a brutal midterm election that Republicans are already projected to win. Pelosi has previously suggested that she would not stay the top Democrat after the election and now things may get heated. 

There is no clear successor to Nancy Pelosi if she were to step down, and this confusion over whether or not she actually intends to go for the position again has caused quite a stir.
