Massive GoFundMe Controversy
Popular crowdfunding website, GoFundMe, was hosting a fundraiser for the protest when all of a sudden the plug was pulled.
Organizers of the “Freedom Convoy” set up a GoFundMe in order to keep the protest going, the fundraiser was extremely successful and millions of dollars was raised for the protest. Then GoFundMe decided that the protest was illegitimate and not only pulled the plug on the fundraiser but decided that the money was to be sent to other organizations.
The group had raised $10 million Canadian dollars but they only received a tenth of that, the rest of the money was dispersed to liberal charities and organizations according to the site. “We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity,” read a statement from GoFundMe.
The “Freedom Convoy” quickly moved to address this issue quickly and started a new fundraiser on the Christian crowdfunding site GiveSendGo where they have already raised $3.5 million.
This atrocious action has caused universal distrust in the company and many are now turning to other sites for crowdfunding.
