No-fly Zone
President Zelenskyy once again asked the United States to participate in a no-fly zone to stop Russia’s bombings, however President Biden has ruled out the move because it would put the U.S. in direct confrontation with Russia.
“They use drones to kill us with precision,” he said. “This is a terror that Europe has not seen for 80 years, and we are asking for a reply—for an answer from this terror from the whole world.”
“Is this a lot to ask for, to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine to save people? Is this too much to ask? A humanitarian no-fly zone, something that Ukraine—that Russia would not be able to terrorize our free cities?” Zelenskyy pleaded.
So far, the U.S. has sent troops, air-defense systems, and other equipment to Poland and other North Atlantic Treaty Organization states to bolster Ukraine’s defenses. Washington also previously provided Javelin antitank weapons, Stinger antiaircraft missiles and small arms and ammunition, according to U.S. officials.
