South Carolina Rep. Tom Rice says that he would strongly consider supporting Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign for president if he apologizes for the Jan. 6th, 2021 Capitol riot.

According to The Hill:

“There’s no way you can support [Trump] again?” co-host Jonathan Karl asked Rice, one of the 10 Republican lawmakers who voted to impeach the former president for his role in the insurrection, on ABC’s “This Week.”

“No, there’s one way … if he apologized,” Rice told Karl.

Karl repeated his question, “So if he came out and said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I mean, all that goes out?”

“If he came out and said, ‘I’m sorry that I made a huge mistake on Jan. 6.’ Then I might consider it,” Rice said.

Rice also defended his decision to vote to impeach former President Trump following the Jan. 6th Capitol riot, calling the vote a “conservative vote.”

“And absolutely defending the Constitution is a bedrock of the Republican platform, right? Defend the Constitution and that’s what I did,” Rice told Karl. “That was the conservative vote.”

Rice reiterated that voting to impeach the president was the “conservative vote” and that he feels a third Trump campaign will ultimately hurt the Republican Party.
