83 House Democrats Push Biden to Declare Public Health Emergency Over Abortion

President Joe Biden is being pushed by 83 House Democrats to declare a public health emergency for abortion access.

Members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus are asking the President to use his authority under the PREP Act to help ensure continued access to medication abortion nationwide.

According to Newsmax:

“The Supreme Court’s radical and dangerous decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has precipitated a full-scale reproductive health crisis across our nation,” the letter states. “It has also plunged our health system into a state of uncertainty and upheaval that threatens patients’ lives.

“Abortion bans can unnecessarily impede lifesaving medical procedures in the event of pregnancy complications or loss. Health experts warn that in the aftermath of this disastrous ruling, the U.S. maternal mortality rate — which is already the highest in the developed world — is certain to rise, with disproportionate impacts on communities of color.”

The impact of this ruling is not limited to health systems in states where abortion is now illegal, they write: “Abortion providers have reported that patients in need of abortion are seeking care in other states, causing unprecedented strain on limited resources and delaying care for residents.”

If President Biden declares a public health emergency it can provide significant new authority and flexibility for federal emergency response.

“We respectfully urge you to quickly issue a National Emergency and Public Health Emergency declaration and use your authority under the PREP Act to protect abortion access,” the letter continues.

  1. Abortion access isn’t a public health emergency. A baby isn’t a disease that creates a public health emergency. This would be another Biden abuse of authority. The Federal government has no responsibility for abortion regulation, as determined by the Supreme Court.

  2. Nonsense. The public health crisis in the US appears to be mental illness and avoidance of reality. If women don’t want to get pregnant, they should always be ready to use a birth control method of choice. Of course cases of rape, incest and other non-voluntary causes should always be exceptions, but abortion should not be seen as a birth control option. Responsible adults and teens should investigate the options and pick one or two that work for them, and USE them. It seems that taking responsibility for oneself is no longer being taught in the US, but parents and schools need to get back to this basic life hack.

  3. Ripping the limbs off an unborn child or crushing their skulls ought to outlawed. It’s the most cruel, sadistic, satanic practice ever devised. Those who do these things belong in jail or mental institutions along with members of congress who support them. Even in California if someone kills a pregnant woman it’s considered a double murder. Abortion is just legalized murder and it won’t stop with the unborn.

  4. There is a simple answer to the abortion controversy – prove, scientifically, when human life begins in the womb. At the moment it is scientifically determined that there is a human being in the womb that is entitled to all of the protection under our Constitution, then it would become illegal (murder) to abort said human-being. This would end the controversy and reasonable exceptions for abortion placed into law would forever establish the rule of law for abortions. This could have been done years ago, but there does not seem to be any common sense in politics – and this controversy with common sense.
