Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, a Democrat, demanded Democrats boot out Democrat West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin from the party because they “already lost control over the Senate” and can’t get anything done despite hanging onto power.
Fox News reports:
Reich, who served as secretary of Labor under President Clinton and was a member of President Obama’s economic transition advisory board, wrote on Substack that kicking Manchin out of the party would at least allow Democrats to admit they didn’t truly have control when Americans head off to vote in the looming midterm elections.
Manchin’s office had reportedly told Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Thursday that he is only willing to support a reconciliation bill in August that includes a provision to lower prescription drug prices and a two-year extension of subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, according to a Democrat briefed on the conversations. However, Manchin pushed back later Friday on reports that he had ruled out including tax hikes and climate change subsidies within the Democrats’ party-line spending bill, saying he would wait until July inflation numbers are out next month to decide.

Reich continued that Manchin has not “championed anything else Democrats have sought,” either, and the former Clinton staffer believes money is the reason.
“Few if any American-based global corporations or billionaires reside in West Virginia, but lots of money flows to Manchin from corporations and billionaires residing elsewhere. Manchin has not only taken more campaign contributions from oil, gas and coal companies than any other senator (as well as dividends from his own coal company), he has one of the largest war chests from all big American corporations,” Reich concluded.
I am on Sen Manchin’s side 100%. I am an American first and foremost. WE THE PEOPLE want what’s right for all Americans. Sen Manchin is one of the best Senators in Washington, if not the best.
Try to clean up your own party but leave Manchin alone. How dare he use his brain to decide which bills are worthy of passing. Thanks, Manchin
Sounds to me like he is jealous of Manchin’s war chest and the fact that he has a brain and doesn’t just vote the party line. He is more for the people.
Bottom Line, NOBODY FAULT BUT YOU DEMOCRATS, PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!! So don’t go blaming Senator Manchin. You Democrats are always pointing the blame at someone else. WE AMERICANS ARE NOT STUPID WE KNOW WHO TO BLAME DEMOCRATS FACTS!!!!!
What is wrong with you people???
RELEASE my comment now!!!
I am from the great state of West Virginia. It is a beautiful state and the people are very patriotic. They work hard and coal and gas are the heart of the State. Joe has to represent the people who elected him which he is doing. To bad it upsets people from other states. That’s why each state has 2 Senators.
Manchin I don’t agree with most of your politics but unlike the giant Marxist Collective that makes up your party at least you consider some of the consequences of too much spending and spending on the wrong things. There are plenty of Republicans that would not have the courage to do what you’ve done, if they were the lone voice being hammered by their party.
Whatever happened to the “Big Tent” theory of American politics? I thought all votes counted the same and all political parties wanted the support of all Americans, especially a US senator. How times have changed.
I wish they would do that because then Schumer would be out of power and the Republicans would have the power of Majority Leader then. Hoo Yah
Hang in there Senator Manchin.
Manchin and possibly Sinema are the only two would should be in congress and you, Reich, should be in prison for crimes against the people or if for nothing else your name implies you’re with the Gestapo commies.
Manchin is the only one holding the Democrat Party together since Biden has gone far-Left & the American people know it. Reich’s words seem more senile than Biden if he doesn’t recognize the destruction of America by Biden.
