45th President Trump accused the DOJ of criminalizing his possession of records and is seeking a third party to review the documents taken, Bloomberg reports. Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago was raided by the FBI back in August and taking “classified” documents”

This has since sparked a political discussion about the power of federal agencies.

Trump’s lawyers filed a court filing in which they referenced in the Presidential Records Act, which states that the president can take whatever documents he wants.

According to the filing, Trump’s lawyers referred to the FBI raid on Trump’s home last month as “unprecedented” and  “unnecessary.”

“Three weeks after an unprecedented, unnecessary, and legally unsupported raid on the home of a President—and possibly a candidate against the current chief executive in 2024—the Government, represented by the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) and the United States Attorney’s
Office, has filed an extraordinary document with this Court, suggesting that the DOJ, and the DOJ alone, should be entrusted with the responsibility of evaluating its unjustified pursuit of criminalizing a former President’s possession of personal and Presidential records in a secure
setting,” the filing stated.

Trump’s lawyers are requesting a special master as a result of the documents taken and the FBI raid.

According to Bloomberg, a federal judge is expected to hear Trump’s arguments for a special master at 1 p.m. Thursday.
