Remembering the Words of President Lincoln

As Americans gather around the Thanksgiving table, there continues to be turmoil
in our country and the Republican Party in the wake of this years, admittedly,
disappointing election results.

But all is not doom and gloom and there are, in fact, many things to be thankful
for, first as Americans, but also as Republicans and conservatives. Let’s start with
the fact that the Republicans will control the House of Representatives, although
it took far, far too long to determine their victory. I mean, seriously, it’s two
weeks after the election and there are still four, 4, quarto, House seats still
undecided. This should upset all Americans, as it combines with the total debacle
of Maricopa County, Arizona, that is FINALLY being investigated, something long
overdue. Our country looks like some Third World banana republic that can’t
count all the votes within 48-72 hours?

But the question that remains is merely how big the Republican majority is, so at
least we can hopefully increase our cushion to 220-221 seats. And there have
been some positive signs that the new speaker is going remove some of the most
egregiously partisan Democrats from key committee assignments, and good
riddance to them. After Nancy’s kangaroo January 6 committee, it’s hard to have
any sympathy for the inevitable howls from Democrats. In addition, there are
hopeful signs that the incredible failures at both DHS and the partisan hackery at
the DOJ will be investigated and should lead to some impeachments of both the
DHS Secretary and Attorney General for gross dereliction of duty. Hopefully, the
new Congress will also put a break on some of Joe’s more loony ideas, especially
the insane notion of paying “climate reparations” to Third World countries.

As far as the Republican Party going forward, there will no doubt be a vigorous
debate about where the party goes from here. That’s probably an
understatement, but at the end, let’s hope the Party remains unified on the big
things. I know “establishment” Republicans get a bad rap, but I am extremely
appreciative of Mitch McConnell for keeping Merrick Garland off the Supreme

Court and getting the Justices we have. I am appreciative of every Republican
that has stood and will stand against Joe and his party’s social and cultural lunacy
on both the national and state level. Let’s not forget that the party is built on the
state and local level and I think we need to be thankful that the Republican Party
has a pretty good bench to draw from in the future. I can’t help but wonder what
a Democratic Party that idolizes John Fetterman as a potential Presidential
candidate would do to America.

So, as we gather around the table, let’s not forget that there are still social justice
warriors that want to vilify Thanksgiving the same way they have vilified
Columbus Day with false history and shallow thinking, so there is still much work
to be done to correct the Marxist and hateful history being taught to the next
generation, something I spend a great deal of time doing. For us normal
Americans, it remains a time to give thanks that for all its faults, we still live in the
greatest nation on Earth. Abraham Lincoln said it best in his 1863 Thanksgiving
Proclamation:

“I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States,
and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign
lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a
day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the
Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions
justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also,
with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience,
commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans,
mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are
unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the
Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as
may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace,
harmony, tranquility and Union.”
