Tuesday, Attorneys General Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Jeff Landry of Louisiana, deposed FBI Supervisory Special Agent Elvis Chan. Chan is being looked into due to the ongoing investigation surrounding the FBI’s role is influencing the 2020 election by using censorship and impression tactics to put the Hunter Biden laptop story on mute throughout multiple social media companies.

The lawsuit against the Biden Administration alleges that high-ranking government officials throughout multiple different programs of the government colluded with social media companies to wrongfully influence the election.

Previously, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called out the FBI on the Joe Rogan Experience for their tactics in censoring free speech and a legitimate news story due to the potential of the story hurting a candidate in the U.S. Presidental race.

On the Joe Rogan Experience, Zuckerberg said:

“The FBI, I think basically came to us — some folks on our team and was like, ‘Hey, um, just so you know, like, you should be on high alert. There was the — we thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically there’s about to be some kind of dump of — that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant.’”

Those meetings were initially quarterly, then monthly, then weekly heading into the presidential election between former President Trump and now President Biden. According to a source, Chan testified that in those multiple, separate meetings, the FBI warned the social media companies that there could be potentially Russians “hack and dump” or “hack and leak” operations.

In their complaint, the GOP AGs noted an August 26 podcast episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” in which Meta CEO Mark Zuckerburg stated that, “The FBI basically came to us” and told Facebook to be “on high alert” relating to “a lot of Russian propaganda.” Zuckerberg said the FBI said “there’s about to be some kind of dump … that’s similar to that, so just be vigilant.”

As noted in the complaint, Zuckerberg stated, “If the FBI … if they come to us and tell us we need to be on guard about something, then I want to take that seriously.” Zuckerberg said he could not recall if the FBI specifically flagged the Hunter Biden laptop story as Russian disinformation, but said that the story “basically fit the pattern” that the FBI had identified.

“On information and belief, the FBI’s reference to a ‘dump’ of information was a specific reference to the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop, which was already in the FBI’s possession,” the complaint said.

A Louisiana federal judge ordered Chan’s deposition on Nov. 14. “Chan had authority over cybersecurity issues for the FBI in the San Francisco, California region which includes the headquarters of major social-media platforms and played a critical role for the FBI in coordinating with social-media platforms related to censorship,” Judge Terry A. Doughty wrote in his court order.

“Even if Chan played no role in the Hunter Biden laptop communication issue, he may have knowledge of who did, and his deposition is nonetheless warranted,” the judge said. “If Chan played no role in the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story, then such information will be made clear in his deposition.”
