McCarthy Laughs Off Reporter Question As He Headed To Speaker Vote

As Congress opens, House Republicans are in the process of voting for a Speaker. With GOP control the position is likely set to go to Republicans. As the day began with Representatives walking through the Capitol, House Republican Leader, and potential Speaker pending votes, Kevin McCarthy, R-California, spoke to reporters about the Speaker election. It has been forecasted that this election would be challenging as a few Republicans oppose McCarthy for Speaker. Leaving many to wonder who else could run and find better success amongst fellow Representatives.

One of the few names tossed around has been Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana. Scalise has said he was preparing to run only if and when McCarthy dropped out of the race.

Reporters had a chance to ask McCarthy about his opinion of Scalise running and if he would support Scalise if he himself “failed.” In the below video it can be seen that as McCarthy is asked this question, he states “we are going to have a good day today,” before laughing off the question and walking away.
