Teletubbies Sponsors Drag Show: Why Did RuPaul’s DragCon Target Preschool Aged Children?

Andre Charles, better known as RuPaul, hosted his annual event, “RuPaul’s DragCon UK 2023,” an event that featured children and allowed was sponsored by brands with a demographic that consists mostly of children. One of the sponsors, and likely the most controversial one, includes, the children’s television show “Teletubbies,” a show whose target demographic are ages one to four years old.

Many on the right-wing side of the political aisle were considering the fact that the Teletubbies weren’t wearing over-sexualized clothing and BDSM gear to be a slight win, however, it isn’t. At the end of the day, an event targeting children was allowed to be put on by a man who is a 62-year-old drag queen.

RuPaul’s Dragcon would go on to post this advertisement on their Instagram account, featuring the Teletubbies “Tinky,” a character of course targeted towards preschool-aged children, along with the rest of Teletubbies.

Libs of TikTok posted an advertisement for the event on Twitter, showing that “Kids Fashion Show” was part of the advertising, asking children if they want to “walk the runway?” This sparked backlash from many, and after pushback, Crocs decided to pull out of the event, however, Teletubbies remained active sponsors and even performed at the event.
