Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

There is widespread media speculation about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s potential candidacy as Donald Trump’s running mate for the 2024 election. The controversial congresswoman recently made headlines for proposing a “national divorce” between red and blue states. As the current Republican front-runner, Trump is considering several candidates and has expressed a desire for a female candidate who will display unwavering loyalty.
Two sources close to Greene have reported that she is actively positioning herself as a potential vice-presidential candidate and believes she is on the shortlist for the role.
Steve Bannon, the former chief aide of Trump and host of the podcast “Bannon’s War Room,” made a statement regarding Marjorie Taylor Greene, saying:
“This is no shrinking violet. She’s ambitious — she’s not shy about that, nor should she be,”
“She sees herself on the short list for Trump’s VP. Paraphrasing Cokie Roberts, when MTG looks in the mirror she sees a potential president smiling back.”
In an effort to broaden her appeal within the Republican Party, Marjorie Taylor Greene has been rebranding herself as a politician who can attract both hard-liners and establishment Republicans. To this end, she has supported Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s election as Speaker of the House and taken on high-profile committee assignments investigating the Biden administration.
While this move has risked alienating some of her allies in the House Freedom Caucus and conservative activists, it is seen as a calculated power move. Greene is described as “strategic and disciplined,” willing to take short-term heat for the long-term goal of being a significant player in politics.
It is unclear if Trump is seriously considering Greene as a potential running mate at this early stage, and his aides have not commented on the matter. Greene’s spokesperson stated that she is “laser-focused on serving the people of Northwest Georgia” and that people should not get wrapped up in rumors.
