Elise Stefanik
Elise Stefanik, the current chair of the House Republican Conference and third-ranking Republican in the US House of Representatives, has not ruled out the possibility of running for vice president alongside Donald Trump in the 2024 election. Although Trump reportedly considers her a potential running mate, Stefanik’s focus is currently on her re-election campaign and helping Republicans win a House majority in 2022.
Stefanik has been a vocal ally of Trump since his first impeachment trial in 2019 and is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, representing New York’s 21st congressional district. She gained further national attention at the 2020 Republican National Convention, where she praised Trump’s policies and criticized the Democrats, particularly House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representative Adam Schiff.
In May 2021, Stefanik ousted Representative Liz Cheney as the third-ranking Republican in the House, signaling Trump’s continued influence within the party. Trump subsequently endorsed Stefanik in her re-election campaign.
Last year, Stefanik commented on the possibility of being Trump’s Vice President should he win in 2024, saying:
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future,” Stefanik said when asked by The Post if she was ruling out a future veep run alongside Trump.
“I want to congratulate Elise on her success. Man is she moving fast. That means at this rate she’ll be President in about 6 years,” Trump said of Stefanik in January of 2022.
