In a significant ruling, the House of Representatives came to a decision, with a vote of 213-209, to officially reprimand Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat representing California. Schiff faced censure due to his promotion of unverified claims about collusion between former President Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.
Schiff now joins a select group, becoming only the third member of the House to be censured in the 21st century, forever carrying the mark of disgrace.
The censure received unanimous support from Republicans, except for six members who abstained, while Democrats opposed it. Following the vote, Democrats gathered in the House chamber, expressing their discontent by chanting “shame!” and “disgrace!” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, faced opposition from Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, who criticized McCarthy’s leadership as feeble and labeled him a vindictive coward.
Consequently, McCarthy called for Schiff to address the House, resulting in Democrats applauding and cheering as Schiff took the floor amidst frequent disruptions. The censure resolution also demands an ethics investigation into Schiff’s dissemination of false information, misrepresentations, and the misuse of sensitive data.
In a follow-up move, Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna, hailing from Florida and known for her allegiance to Trump, embarked on a second endeavor to censure Schiff. Luna, who received Trump’s endorsement in 2021, aimed to hold Schiff accountable, but the previous attempt faltered due to objections regarding a $16 million penalty. Luna underscored the importance of countering Schiff’s false claims about Trump, accusing him of leveraging privileged information and undermining the nation’s credibility.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna took to Twitter following the vote, saying:
“Rep. Adam Schiff from California’s 30th Congressional District has been CENSURED and referred to Ethics for an investigation.”

Rep. Luna stands among the 20-plus GOP members hailing from Florida who have endorsed Trump over DeSantis for the 2024 elections. Notable figures like Reps. Cory Mills, Byron Donalds, and Matt Gaetz also fall into this category. This endorsement is noteworthy because it signifies their preference for Trump over newly declared 2024 candidate Ron DeSantis, potentially jeopardizing DeSantis’ hold on the state he currently governs.
During his speech, Schiff sought to defend himself and expressed gratitude to the Republicans for reintroducing the resolution. He urged his Republican counterparts to condemn those responsible for spreading significant falsehoods regarding the previous election. However, the Democrats’ attempts to delay the censure were unsuccessful, resulting in a strictly partisan vote of 218-208. Previously, House Republicans had targeted Schiff, with McCarthy removing him from the Intelligence Committee due to his promotion of unverified allegations of collusion.
Following the vote, Schiff took to Twitter, saying:
“ICYMI—Today Rep. Anna Paulina Luna introduced a resolution to censure & fine me $16 million.
Authors of the big lie are attacking me for telling the truth &holding Trump accountable.
This is not just an attack on me—it’s an attack on our democracy & the institution of Congress.”

Naturally, Schiff employed the Democrats’ beloved catchphrase of recent years, denouncing the effort to censure and impose fines on him as an “assault on our democracy.” Such a statement is undeniably audacious coming from the same individual who sought to oust the former President of the United States based on unfounded allegations regarding the fictitious notion of Trump’s collusion with “the Russians,” aiming to essentially hijack the 2016 election from Hillary Clinton.
