In a recent conversation with CNN’s “The Lead” anchor Jake Tapper, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis offered his perspective on the ongoing investigations surrounding former President Donald Trump. DeSantis expressed his hope that Trump doesn’t face charges for the January 6, 2021 incidents, suggesting that this would not bode well for the country.

Responding to Tapper’s question about Trump’s alleged involvement in overturning the 2020 election results, DeSantis expressed concern about what he perceives as a trend of “criminalizing political differences.” The Governor specifically mentioned Alvin Bragg’s controversial application of a statute in Manhattan against Trump, stating:

“Even people on the left acknowledge that if it wasn’t Trump, that case would not have likely been brought against a normal civilian.”

Criticizing the perceived weaponization of the Department of Justice and the FBI, DeSantis cited the Russia collusion investigation as a prime example of a politically motivated investigation. DeSantis assured that his goal as president would be to “restore a single standard of justice,” promising significant changes within these agencies.

Addressing the issue of the country’s future, DeSantis argued for a focus on the present and future rather than being ensnared by past events. He concluded:

“I don’t think it serves us good to have a presidential election focused on what happened four years ago. So, I want to focus on looking forward. I don’t want to see him, I hope he doesn’t get charged. I don’t think it will be good for the country.”
