Twitter has labeled tweets from President Donald J. Trump as “potentially misleading” which marks the first time Twitter has “fact-checked” the President’s tweets.
The tweet they “fact-checked” was about mail-in ballots:
There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-In Ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent. Mail boxes will be robbed, ballots will be forged & even illegally printed out & fraudulently signed. The Governor of California is sending Ballots to millions of people, anyone…..

At the bottom of the tweet, Twitter added an icon titled “Get the facts about mail-in ballots” which links to a page that is titled “Trump makes unsubstantiated claim that mail-in ballots will lead to voter fraud” which cites “CNN, Washington Post, and others”. The blurb continues on to say “Experts say mail-in ballots are very rarely linked to voter fraud” without naming any experts or providing any context for the expert’s knowledge or research.
Trump was unsurprisingly unhappy about Twitter’s actions. He fired back this morning:
….happen again. Just like we can’t let large scale Mail-In Ballots take root in our Country. It would be a free for all on cheating, forgery and the theft of Ballots. Whoever cheated the most would win. Likewise, Social Media. Clean up your act, NOW!!!!
