Wednesday evening 35 House Republicans voted to support legislation that if passed will form an independent commission to investigate the events surrounding the January 6th Capitol Hill riot. The bill now goes to the Senate where it will meet an uncertain fate as more Republicans announced their opposition to the bipartisan bill. House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy first noted his opposition to the bill because Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly refused to negotiate in good faith and expand the scope of the commission to investigate last summer’s riots across the country. Yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell cited similar reasons for his own opposition to the legislation.
