Biden Uses Term ‘Birthing People’ in Lieu of ‘Women’ in 2022 Budget Proposal

Is President Biden trying to cancel mothers and women? It seems that way. In his 2022 budget proposal, Biden used the term “birthing people” to refer to women. The choice to use the woke terminology highlights the Biden administration’s efforts to promote tolerance because apparently using the term “woman” is exclusionary now.

According to The Washington Times:

Progressive Democrats have increasingly substituted the phrase for “mother” or “pregnant woman” to avoid excluding transgender men — who are biological women and thus can carry a baby.

“To help end this high rate of maternal mortality and race-based disparities in outcomes among birthing people – and in addition to the investment in maternal health included in the American Families Plan – the Budget includes more than $200 million,” says the fiscal 2022 document.

The reference isn’t consistent — elsewhere, the budget supports providing paid leave “to keep mothers in the workforce.” But it does mark a victory for leftist activists seeking to rework the English language.

In early May, “Squad” member Cori Bush used the term “birthing people” to refer to women sparking immediate backlash. Many women have accused woke progressives of attempting to destroy the complexities of being a woman and being a mother claiming that the woke brigade is working against women’s rights and the term “birthing people” is derogatory.

According to Townhall:

It would be interesting to see the rationale through which the Biden administration decided to begin using “birthing people” in lieu of “women” or “mothers” because the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics does not refer to women as birthing people, based on the World Health Organization’s definition for maternal mortality: “the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy.”

If you’re woke, you might conclude that the WHO is a bunch of bigots for their backward, antiquated, but scientific definition. But the Biden administration seems to be unable to get its story straight on how to refer to those individuals who have the biological capacity to grow life.

Rightfully, critics slammed the choice of words on Twitter.
